Little more than a year ago I hadn’t even heard of Crossfit or had any desire to get into an exercise routine of any kind! Funny how things fall into place, the first seed was planted while donating platelets at Life South, one day I saw a group of athletes running down the road and the nurse attending me talked about the crazy workout this group was doing across the road and how intense their workout was, then my son, Jason Dolan, posted a few pictures of himself after completing some Crossfit WODs and his comments about burpees and wall balls had me questioning what this new language was all about! My daughter-in-law actually approached me first about trying Crossfit and inside I wanted too but thought how could I afford it? Something about my son’s enthusiasm for this new venture in his life sparked something inside myself and I began to wonder if I too could get into better shape, be healthier and enjoy life more.
I have my daughter-in-law, Rose to thank for getting the ball rolling when she offered to pay my first 3 months, then my second three months as a birthday gift, then Christmas gift, then Mother’s Day gift, and now I’m hooked and somehow I’ve found the money to continue this great journey on my own! I have to say though, if it had not been for Jason Odom, Adam Pfaff and the great group of athletes I’ve come to know I wouldn’t have made it this far! Crossfit isn’t like any other exercise organization out there, how can I justly explain the support one receives from the coaches, they genuinely care about each individual regardless of ability, if anything the less ability you have the more interested they are to help you achieve some functional fitness in your life! The level of acceptance into this group is amazing to me, I may be 20 or even 40 years older than many of the athletes in this box but never have they made me feel anything but as young and fit as they are!
I love the variety of the workouts, there is nothing routine about Crossfit and for me that is just another positive aspect that keeps me coming back but more than that it’s working as a team, encouraging each other to push harder and cheering someone when they break their own personal record, all under the watchful eye of Adam and Jason. I love my coaches and my Crossfit family with all my heart because of them I can squat, lift, jump and run, because of Crossfit I am a more productive employee, because of Crossfit I no longer have hip pain and I’m healthier than I believe I’ve been my entire life!
Two coaches with two totally different styles that blend beautifully together, one tough, the other gentle both with an understanding way to keep you mentally and physically pushing on! I can’t wait to see what level of fitness the next year will bring me!
