In January of this year we decided to give an opportunity for members to do a little more in preparation for the 2016 CrossFit Games Open. We dubbed it the “Open Prep Challenge (OPC)”…
Very dramatic. I know.
How it works: We had Individuals sign up for the OPC six weeks prior to the first Open Workout. This Challenge was a competition in and of it itself where participants vied for the top three spots to win prizes which included $100 dollar gift card but also so awesome Progenex and Kill Cliff products. The OPC wasn’t only about getting ready for the Open but also focused on Nutrition, Body composition, and skill challenges along the way. Each aspect of the OPC was a point based system in which participants could earn points OR lose points. The over-all Top 3 came out 6 weeks later! In the beginning Individuals were weighed and measured for total body inches, total body weight, and body fat percentage. They were also instructed on what could earn them points and what could make them lose points. Each week participants had to weigh in to stay eligible, had to participate in one Open Workout per week, and had to document both Strength & Metcon PR’s throughout the entire 6 weeks.
May the odds ever be in your favor.
In the end: After 6 weeks the participants that were still fighting for the top 3 spots weighed in again for a comparison to their beginning Body Composition. The Results were in and among our Females we had an average of 2 inches lost, average 2.51 Body fat % loss, average 4.5 pounds body fat loss, and an average 4.12 lean muscle gained. Among the reporting males the results were an average of 7.56 inches loss, an average of 2% body fat loss, an average of 4.48 pounds of body fat loss, and an average of 0.64 muscle gained. Our Participant who saw the largest changes in body composition was Debbie Dolan who lost 19.3 pounds of fat and gained an amazing 12 pounds of lean muscle!
Our Overall Top 3 Winners were:
- Ken Hanak 197 points
- Ryan Duclos 175 points
- Baxter Farguson 161 points
Watching all these participants over the 6 week period was truly an experience. Thank you to all those that participated and Congratulations to our Winners!
